A lot has changed in orthodontics in the 30+ years since Dr. Valant started practicing, but the biggest shift has certainly been in technology. Thankfully, he has always worked diligently to stay on the forefront of the latest advancements. Today, our practice features all-digital scans and X-rays, and we can even show a patient what their teeth will look like after treatment so they can become excited about their new smile. If you’re ready to experience the best that 21st-century orthodontics has to offer, give us a call today.
Before we begin any orthodontic treatment, we need to take an impression of a patient’s bite to understand how their teeth come together. Rather than having someone bite into a mold filled with odd-tasting dental putty, we can simply scan their teeth with our iTero digital scanner. In a matter of minutes, it’s able to capture thousands of data points and turn them into a highly-detailed model of the teeth that Dr. Valant can use to precisely plan a patient’s treatment.
This technology enables us to show a patient what their newly straightened smile will look like even before their treatment begins. We simply take a digital impression of the teeth and simulate a treatment on the computer to produce their future smile on a nearby monitor. This not only gives our patients a better idea of what to expect, but it can also be tremendously motivating (especially for children), giving people all the motivation they need to keep their upcoming treatment on track.
When we move the teeth, it’s not just the visible portion that is shifting, but the roots below the gum line as well. To help us keep an eye on them throughout a person’s treatment, we utilize digital X-rays. These are able to capture images much faster than traditional film X-rays, and they reveal much more detail as well, allowing our team to provide even better care. Plus, they emit 90% LESS radiation than old X-rays, which is great news for everyone.
