


Dr. John Valant has been a fixture in the Cedar Hill community for almost 30 years, so long that many of his first child patients are now bringing their own children to come see him! He’s thrilled to have the opportunity every day to help people improve their health and appearance using his friendly and comprehensive approach to orthodontic care. After graduating from dental school and practicing as a general dentist for 6 years, Dr. Valant became extremely interested in the early treatment of orthodontic problems. He was amazed at the difference orthodontics could make for a child when it came to not just their teeth, but their facial appearance, as well as their confidence. Years of specialty training in orthodontics enabled him to fulfill his passion of treating both kids and adults at his practice in Cedar Hill.
Dr. Valant is a graduate of West Point and received his dental degree from Loyola University. He then spent the next 6 years as a general dentist. Dr. Valant completed an orthodontic residency and received his master’s degree from Texas A&M/Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas.
Dr. Valant is an assistant professor at Texas A&M/the Baylor College of Dentistry, where he has taught for over 20 years. Teaching others helps Dr. Valant stay on the forefront of the latest advancements in orthodontics, and he says his students actually teach him as much as he teaches them. Their questions and curiosity force him to constantly update his knowledge so he can give orthodontists of the future the most up-to-date and accurate information possible.
Despite his decades of experience, Dr. Valant believes that he should never stop learning, which is why he continues to take courses focused on the newest techniques and technologies in orthodontics. Dr. Valant’s wife Nancy is a registered nurse, and they have 3 adult children, all of which were great patients! Ella, a miniature Australian Shepherd, is his Frisbee buddy. Dr. Valant also enjoys playing golf, skiing, scuba diving, and do-it-yourself projects.
